new tunic

An afternoon of frustration and thinking I ruined this lovely fabric turned into a new tunic dress for mòi! I’ve had this fabric for about a year and really wanted to make a tunic out of it. I’ve also been feeling really frustrated with my knitting, so an afternoon of sewing and actually finishing something was much needed.

I never did make my cup of tea though….

Reading: The Other Boylen Girl and The Boylen Inheritance, both by Philippa Gregory. I’ve been on a bit of a Tudor kick lately, with these books and a movie about Henry VIII. It’s such a fascinating time period to read about.

Knitting: Still working on my Mara shawl! It’s gotten huge in just a week. I’m almost done with the second skein which will finish up the body of the shawl. Then I just have the ribbed border then it’s done! I’m super excited to finish it.

{I have watercolors now. It is lots of fun.}

{I really like how this turned out. It’s inspired by one of my favorite shows, Akatsuki no Yona. And I painted it without drawing the outline first.}

I’ve been experimenting with several different mediums lately, including ones I’m not comfortable with. Drawing has never been one of my strong suits. But I drew something and painted it and was actually happy with the way it turned out. Letting go of perfectionism isn’t easy but it can be fun. Playing is fun. Just deciding, “oh, today I’m going to try drawing that thing I really like” is fun.

Reading: I have an interesting collection of books on my bedside table. And I’ve finished three of them since taking this picture. To be fair, I was nearly done with The Elite, Bleach took just a bit to read, and Scarlet I was most of the way through. I picked up The One from the library but I only got a couple chapters in before I had to put it down. I just got so frustrated with the main character!! I’m finishing my reread of the Lunar Chronicles with Cress. As soon as I can, I’ll see if I can find Winter.

Knitting: A Man Hat with some rockin’ hot pink Malabrigo! I’m so in love with this color and this pattern. The pattern is super quick and simple. I’m really happy with the combo!

quick and easy

Can I just say how much I love bulky yarn and big needles? Because that lovely combo means I can knit up a baby hat in an afternoon! And it’s the sweetest thing ever.

I know a few lovely ladies who will be having babies in the next few months, so baby knits are hopping on my needles. This little hat is for another knitter. I hope she likes it!

{A post about what I’m reading, knitting, listening to, and watching right now.}

Reading: I’m rereading the Fruits Basket manga that I own (volumes 3-8, thank you used bookstore~!) in preparation for rewatching the anime over Valentine’s Day. This is one of my favorite mangas/animes and it makes me really happy. Plus, it’s hilarious.

Knitting: Finally getting around to knitting my other red, white, and blue socks! Does anyone remember this post? Probably not, that was almost a year ago! These socks got knocked way down on the priority list, were ripped out twice, and have been waiting patiently to be knit up. Well, I’m doing it. I’m getting the silly things knit so I have another pair of socks in rotation. I’m also casting on a pair of boot socks. The green ones I knit have been felted on the bottom due to how much I wear them. Plus, it’s the dead of winter. It’s cold. I need more socks.

Listening: Guys Don’t Like Me-It Boys, New Horizon-EXILE.

Watching: Nothing right now, but I am waiting for tomorrow’s episode of Downton Abbey!
